Rumor Mill

CBSSports.com narrows in on the recent rumors and gossip surrounding players, coaches and teams.

Team by Team
Teemu Selanne told the Finnish tabloid Iltalehti he is mentally ready to play again. The Ducks, however, will not be able to make an offer to the winger until they clear salary from their payroll.
Joe Sakic is in the fold for next season, but what about Peter Forsberg? The forward's agent, Don Baizley told the Rocky Mountain News Forsberg will not commit to playing until a lingering foot issue is figured out. Peter has done some skating and he wants to play, but only if the foot is right," Baizley said. Earlier this summer, the Swedish newspaper Expressen reported Forsberg may need several months of rehabilitation before he can return to the NHL.
According to the Detroit News, the Red Wings are close to re-signing Chris Chelios, Kyle Quincey and Darren McCarty for next season. The signings are expected to put Detroit over the salary cap, which means GM Ken Holland will have to move a player -- probably a young defenseman -- before the season starts. ... Holland said the Wings would not be signing Mats Sundin, who has been rumored to be eyeing the possibility of a return with Detroit.
According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul media, Marian Gaborik was pleased with his recent meeting with GM Doug Risebrough about a contract extension. "It made him feel really good the way they shared everything with him about the team and the future," said Gaborik's agent, Ron Salcer. Risebrough expressed similar optimism and said the team will make its first offer to Gaborik in the next few days. ... Salcer denied a report out of Moscow suggesting his client has held talks with Spartak Moscow of the Continental Hockey League.
The Canadiens are looking into hosting a game at Montreal's Olympic Stadium as part of the team's 100th anniversary celebration, says the Montreal Gazette. The game would likely be held on Dec, 9, 2009, the date the Canadiens joined the National Hockey Association in 1909.
The Predators are working on a contingency plan since it appears Alex Radulov will remain in Russia, says The Tennessean. Should they decide to go through free agency, Mark Parrish has been mentioned as a possible option. If they choose to make a trade, Tampa Bay could be a trading partner. The Lightning are believed to be looking to part with either Jussi Jokinen or Michel Ouellet. Tampa Bay would probably seek a defenseman in return.
According to the New York Post, Mats Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry has been in constant contact with the Rangers as of late and New York is the center's first choice should he return to the NHL. Barry denied the report, however. Sundin has little interest in Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto, teams that also purused his services at the start of the free agency period. Bringing Sundin to Broadway, however, would require GM Glen Sather to trim payroll.
J.P. Barry, who represents Mats Sundin, said the Flyers are one team the center is interested in joining, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. GM Paul Holmgren told the Philadelphia Inquirer it "doesn't hurt to look," but considered signing Sundin a long shot. If Philadelphia were to sign the Swede, they would need to clear a significant amount from their payroll, which is already $1 million over the salary cap.
The Blues are looking into bringing back Brendan Shanahan, says the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. President John Davidson confirmed St. Louis has been in touch with the winger's agent, Rick Curran, but have not offered Shanahan a contract yet. According to the New York Daily News, Shanahan has instructed Curran to tell suitors he wants to re-sign with the Rangers.
J.P. Barry, Mats Sundin's agent, told the Vancouver Sun his client may not make a decision to return to the NHL until the regular season is under way. "We are going to talk to him later this week just to get an update from him, but right now we are not putting any pressure on him because he has to get that feeling that he wants to play," Barry told the Sun. "But right now, he's no closer."
John Vollan, who represents Mark Parrish told Vancouver radio station CKNW the Canucks have held talks with his client. Vollan said the interest is mutual. "He's just sitting back and weighing his options," Vollan told the radio station. He's just looking for an opportunity and a spot to help a team." The Islanders and Predators have also inquired about the forward.

There's 2 kind of Hockey Fans:

1. There's a RED WING FAN.
2. There's a RED WING HATER.

I fall in that # 2 spot, and to good reasons.  Through thick and thin, I root my Avs on.  Living in Michigan last year for example, there was a lot of buzz about the

Attention all NHL hockey fans all over the country, just hope and pray that the "New York Rangers" don't make the Play-Offs this year for if they do (and I think they will) they will sweep by every team they play and will win another Stanley Cup this season ! This I predict, and you can take this all the way to the bank ! I'll cl ...(more)
