COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -Mikkel Kessler stopped Dimitri Sartison in the 12th round to capture the vacant WBA super-middleweight title early Sunday morning.
Kessler (40-1), dominated the bout from the beginning before a roaring home crowd at the Brondby Hall on the outskirts of the Danish capital of Copenhagen.
For Sartison, who was born in Kazhakstan but grew up in Germany, it was the first loss after a 22-0 start.
Kessler won the WBA title in November 2004 by stopping Manny Siaca of Puerto Rico. He added the WBC super-middleweight crown two years later when he knocked out Markus Beyer of Germany in the third round in Copenhagen, becoming the first Danish boxer to hold titles from two major sanctioning bodies.
But Kessler lost both belts when Joe Calzaghe of Wales outpointed the previously unbeaten Dane in November last year in Cardiff.
