It struck me today that the sport of golf will definitely be poorer with the retirement of the Very classy & talented Annika. Will you miss her?

I voted for somewhat.  Yes, I am an Annika fan!  Very classy...talent beyond belief.  BUT...to say the sport of golf will be- as you say 'poorer'?

I beg to differ with you Black & Silver.  There are so many young studs in the LPGA right now.  The sport is actually better with the parity in the game.  No ONE dominant player.  Again, I am an Annika fan.  She may be the best of all time (One of them anyway).

Can you believe that there were 27 Asians to make the cut in the US Open this past week as opposed to 24 Americans!  Stunning stat.

Thank you for the response JReeze! I will respond to your point regarding the effects of a dominant player.

In terms of the lady Annika.. to lose the Tiger of their tour, one who has been good for so long & would appear to still have the physical skills is a major loss for fellow competitors & fans alike. The magical shot on 18 last Sunday was such a reminder.

While there are some negative aspects to having a dominant player in any sport, Overall,
the effect is one that provides a target for all those who aspire to achieve at the highest levels. With the PGA Tour the phrase Tiger Effect is often used to describe the level of fitness, practice, & purse sizes. I believe Anika has inspired many young lady golfers to pursue a career in professional golf with the goals of surpassing many of her standards.

For Anika to have dueled & withstood the challenges from the likes of Webb, Se Ri & now Ochoa , she certainly may be able to take some credit for the growth of the sport.

Cheers

I will  miss Annika.  I do watch the LPGA sometimes, but prefer watching the men.

At one time Annika wanted to play on the PGA  but, realized she was better off sticking with the women and making a name for herself  on the LPGA.  This turned out to be the right decision.  She is going out respected by most.  The only negative behavior I have seen her display, was when Wie dropped out of her tourney last year ( three holes before her round was over) to avoid being cut for the dreaded 88 rule.  Annika had the right to be mad.

I don't know of any pro-sport that has a female competeing on an equal level.  They have different issues to deal with than men do.  Just like Wie experienced last year, having to sit down constantly, during play.  Too hot, or something else. I think she ended up last.

Will the LPGA Tour "suffer" with the lose of Annika, perhaps, but Laurana Ocho, Natalie Guilbis, Paula Cremer, etc will pick up the slack.

I will miss watching her play, but I guess everyone has to step down some time.
